It's All About You....Garry Robinson

Tell us about your introduction to speedway

I was 10 years old and taken to the old Belle Vue stadium to see the Knockout Cup Final second leg against Wimbledon. I loved the noise, smells and atmosphere and was priviledged to have seen Ivan Mauger and Ronnie Moore in my first meeting.

Tell us about your favourite meeting of all time

The Knockout Cup Final of 1973 between Belle Vue and Reading. An amazing comeback from the Aces culminating in the most memorable run off race of all time between an injured Peter Collins and superstar Anders Michanek - what a race!

Tell us about your favourite rider of all time

Peter Collins had everything (except the ability to gate). He was a wizard on a bike and a great bloke off it.

Tell us about your favourite track/stadium

The old Hyde Road stadium. So many passing lines that every rider felt that they had a chance.

What are the best things about speedway?

The friendliness of the fans and the smell of the track!

What are the worst things about speedway?

The poor facilities and lack of professionalism and presentational skills of many tracks.

What one thing would you do to improve speedway?

Standardise the equipment.

Tell us about a rider you wish you'd seen

I'd loved to have seen the original PC - Peter Craven.

What does the future hold for speedway?

It looks very bleak in this country. It's only Sky which is keeping it going sadly. Overseas however, the future looks strong.

What was your favourite track (apart from your own team)?

I loved going to King's Lynn on a Bank Holiday Monday morning for the 11 o'clock start against Belle Vue. It meant leaving home at about 4-30 but the meeting was always good - and PC & Mort loved the place!
