NZ in the 1973 World League - Part 2 Sticking with June '73, Tracy Holmes shares the story of the New Zealand vs Norway/Denmark meeting at Wolverhampton in the World League.

My main memories are of the Eastern European riders I'd never heard of before - the riding style of Zenon Plech, and the hard riding Russians (Grigori Chlynovski in particular) - and who could forget how it all ended with the run off controversy between Collins & Michanek. Not only were the Scots denied a place in the tournament, guess which BL1 track was the only one not to stage a match? Yep the only Scottish one, Coatbridge. Some tracks even had two qualifying matches! Considering the Scots had McMillan, Hunter, Beaton, Harkins and Collins all in the top division, I don't think they would've been outclassed" Mike Wilson: "Greg (Hancock) is an amazing rider for both his longevity and consistent results. Briggo used to hold the all time record for most World Individual Championships ridden at 18 until Hans Nielsen surpassed him in 1999 to reach 19. 2019 will incredibly be Hancock's 27th World Championship season although you could say he was fortunate in both 2001 and 2017 when he finished outside of the qualifying mark and was thus given a Wildcard.
