Nobody was more disapointed than me in the lack of performances but I always knew it was only a hiccup. It just took a while to sort out my bikes, which were underperforming. At first we thought it was bad fuel but after changing two or three things we finally got the problem sorted."

"I was told the track was under water at lunchtime and the weather forecast was poor. In fact, financially it was in our best interests to let the meeting go ahead. Also, I know we'd have been under-strength, but Glasgow had received a phone call to say their Swede Stefan Ekberg's plane had been diverted so he would've missed the meeting. It would've given us a better chance of overhauling the 22-point deficit from the first leg."
