Pictures and Captions Courtesy of Philip Dalling

Action from Nottingham White City in 1937. Photographer Dick Smart believed it shows Billy 'Cyclone' Lamont leading into the first bend with the main grandstand in the background.

An aerial shot of White City after the 380 yard speedway track had been concreted over. In latter years it was used to parade the greyhounds on wet evenings. The picture shows how close the River Trent (top left hand corner) was to the stadium. In the early 1930s there was a ferry boat service from Trent Bridge to a quay next to the track.

Again by Dick Smart, this shows a spectator's eye view of White City. The stadium resembled Owlerton, Sheffield, with a central grandstand and covered terracing on the first and fourth bends.

A midget, or speedcar, being demonstrated at Nottingham in the mid-1930s. Another Dick Smart picture, this shows the greyhound totalisator on the back straight.

All of these pictures feature in Philip's book - "Nottingham and Long Eaton Speedway 1928-1967".
