Soundbites: 19th June 2006

Adams
Lawson

"I have been waiting to come to England for a few months but I had to complete my final school exams first. Now they are out of the way, I cannot wait to start riding for Peterborough. I have heard great things about British speedway from the likes of Ryan Sullivan and Greg Hancock and I can't wait to try it out."
New Panther Karol Zabik

"There is no point in going straight into a match unless you are fully fit. My elbow certainly feels better, it isn't so sore. I'll be able to tell exactly how well it is healing when I'm on my bike in the second half. I'm back at my work, and I was told to give it two weeks before practising. This was in order to build up my muscles again. The doctors know best and I'm heeding their advice."
William Lawson of Edinburgh and Wolves

"Things have started to look a little brighter for us in recent weeks and we are not too far off the playoff places now. It is going to be hard without Morten (Risager), but if the lads can reproduce the sort of form they showed at Oxford on Wednesday there shouldn't be a problem."
Coventry boss Colin Pratt

"I am really proud of the team. Everybody did really well and it was nice to see Richie (Dennis) at his best. The reserves were awesome and using rider replacement worked well. I thought it might have been tougher without Benji (Compton). They are a good side and they beat us here last year but we were firing on all cylinders."
Scunny skipper Wayne Carter after the Scorpions defeated Stoke yesterday

"Initially Grzegorz had a groin injury which he suffered when he was hit hard by his handlebars while riding in Poland. In further tests, doctors have found he has a kidney stone. It is a compounded injury and he is very upset in that whole area of his body. He has had the kidney stones lasered, but he goes into hospital again today to see if he can carry on riding. It is serious stuff because they might say he could be out for the rest of the season. Alternatively, he could be told that he could be back for us in our next fixture next week."
Matt Ford on Grzegorz Walasek

"I was very happy to take up the offer. But it goes beyond him helping me at meetings because we've been talking to a personal trainer who will work with me and we've also been discussing diet to make sure that is correct. Getting involved with Chris is about helping me to progress and I am confident it will. It had been in my mind that I needed someone like him to help but its not always easy to find someone suitable who is willing to do it."
Simon Stead welcomes Chris Morton MBE into his corner

"The scoreline didn't reflect the effort all the boys put in. Some of our riders had mechanical problems on the night, but overall I was pleased by our performance."
John Campbell on Edinburgh's defeat at Workington

"It was ridiculous. We weren't at the races. There are no excuses. We just weren't very good."
Leigh Adams on Swindon's 58-36 defeat at Poole on Wednesday

"It was fun because I have always wanted to have a track record, especially on a British Elite League track. I didn't think I would take it here because it was a really fast time by Ryan and I had never even been close to this track record before last week. But I made a good gate and I was just going for it. I was pulling all the way, but I didn't know I was going that fast."
New track record holder at Poole - Antonio Lindback

"We get short changed as riders. The BSPA say these are big meetings and of course they are - but we get short changed. The riders go and put on a show and of course we would all rather win than not. But it's far from being a profitable meeting for most and, more often than not, the way things are now, the home track boys take the purse."
Mark Lemon - Not a big fan of shared events

"I've heard so much about Tai I want to have a look at him round Derwent Park. He is 16 in August and could then ride in our League as a C grade reserve so that would be something I will consider when I see him in action. I know his father Rob because we were riding competitively around the same time."
Graham Drury takes a look at Tai Woffinden

"We want to keep the Falcons alive while we sort out our new home and we think riding as a team is the best way of doing so. Nights like this also give our wonderful fans a chance to see the Falcons ride again and allows them to get together to fly the flag for the Exeter speedway."
Mike Spearpoint on the Falcons visit to Somerset

"He is a very determined character and wanted to get a meeting under his belt despite the discomfort, but there were times he was struggling to hold the line."
Rob Lyon on Daniel Nermark who turned out for the Stars despite his foot injury

"James is a professional speedway rider and we have encouraged him to take this chance, even though it means we will lose his services. He deserves to be in the Premier League and, just like Carl Wilkinson last season, I have told Peter Waite that he has gained a very good man."
Boston boss Malcolm Vasey loses James Birkinshaw to Berwick

"No-one wants to see a meeting called off, but you have to think of rider safety and fans' value for money."
Glasgow promoter Stewart Dickson on the pairs abandonment

"Under the circumstances I felt it was a thoroughly good performance. All the riders gave 100 per cent but the loss of Karlis (Ezergailis) was a blow."
Newly appointed Newport Mavericks boss Ken Petherick on their defeat at Buxton. Karlis pulled out with a grazed elbow.

"It was a most annoying incident and why Jamie chose to do it after only finishing third in heat 14 I do not know. The consequence, of course, is our A-grade reserve will be missing for crucial matches coming up and we will have to look around for guest cover."
George English on Jamie Robertson who broke his collarbone pulling a wheelie at Berwick

"I needed that because I've had a disappointing run of results recently. It was a good pick-me-up. I was particularly disappointed to miss out in the World Under-21s in Poland because I had set my heart on getting through to the final. That was a major target this season after I had got there last year. But now I will put that behind me and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, getting as many points as I can for the Comets and Belle Vue."
James Wright on his 15 point max on Saturday

"It was a very good meeting and we saw some exciting racing from two sets of fantastic riders. They gave us a harder job than we had expected because on paper they didn't seem that strong. In the end, it took a real team effort to ensure we won the match - there were some very good performances all round the side."
Plymouth chairman Mike Bowden on the Devils home win over Boston on Friday
