Booey Attends Book Launch
By Steve Magro

Former British Test captain and England's eight times World Finalist Nigel Boocock will be a special guest at the Sydney Showground Speedway"Ghosts in the Bull Pens" book celebration on Sunday, June 9 at the site of the former world famous venue.

Nigel declared his availability to be a part of this special occasion in keeping with the recent release of the keenly awaited book.

The gathering, at PJ Gallagher's Hotel, 1 Bent Street, Moore Park, also is held in recognition of the 70 years of speedway racing at the Royale - a proud history comprehensively detailed in the 520 page coffee table edition.

Boocock represented Gr Britain/England in 32 tests on the hallowed Sydney Showground during his career and some of his toughest battles took place at the hallowed ground.

Nigel, who made his World Final debut at London's original Wembley Stadium in 1963 after he was reserve in 1956 and '62, rode 18 seasons for the famous Coventry Bees club. He was a part of the test match revival Down Under at the Sydney Showground during the 1967-68 season.

The gutsy, British bulldog steered his side to an exciting one point victory over the Australian team in the First Test on November 11, 1967.

Nigel and wife Cynthia will fly from Brisbane for the celebration at the Moore Park Sydney Showground which will commence at 1PM extending through to 5PM.

"The Sydney Showground Speedway holds many fond racing memories for me since I first competed there in 1967 and it was one of my all-time favourite tracks.

"I am looking forward to returning to the Royale and being a part of what promises to be a great day in recognition of the release of the Sydney Showground Speedway history book," Nigel said.

It will be a special day with many of the famous cars and bikes that competed at the Royale displayed.

Race footage from past decades at the Sydney Showground also will be screened during the afternoon.

A line-up of other former car and bike Sydney Showground competitors who will participate in the day's activities will soon be announced. The occasion represents a day of nostalgia and a trip down memory lane in remembrance of "the way we were" at one of the greatest speedway arenas in the world.

"Ghosts in the Bull Pens"will be available for purchase and signing by some of the stars from the golden era in attendance.

There are also specially printed "Ghosts in the Bull Pens" T-shirts on sale as well as a full range of books including "Liverpool City Raceway - the place of Pace 1967- 1989" and "Just One More" (the speedway photography of Bill Meyer).

Food and beverage available.
