Dream Team : Darren Attew

I was involved and supported the mighty Carmarthen Dragons for the oh-so short 3 years that they were in operation. I now travel to watch the Somerset Rebels but miss those Sunday afternoons at the Carmarthen Showground, the most idyllic place for watching Speedway. Here is my Carmarthen 7.

Powell Colvin

Dean Felton
A rider who rode in every single Dragons meeting, what an effort that was in 3 years. Deano was Mr Carmarthen, was a solid points scorer each week and was always there to help and support the less experienced riders. Once continued to ride when his ankle and leg was black and blue and about twice the size. A true legend.

Ben Powell
Not everyone's cup of tea but Ben was an awesome rider to watch, enjoying riding the high line and he swooped around the outside. A great talent, such a shame he was let down too often by his machinery and he had the ability to be a top rider.

Steve Bishop
Steve joined the Dragons for the final season and was without doubt the best rider I have seen at the Showground. Bish was one you could rely on for at least 10 points each week, he was just so consistent and hard to beat.

Shane Colvin (2002 version)
Super Shane was Carmarthen's first "star" rider, such a smooth rider, so hard to beat from start to finish at home. First thing I'd do when arriving at Carmarthen was to check the pits to make sure Shane was there as with him in the team, we had a fighting chance.

Trevor Harding
Only rode for the Dragons for a short spell but averaged 10.35 for us, that says it all such was his performances. A great rider, just a shame he has suffered with injuries that has halted his career.

Craig Taylor
Another rider, like Dean Felton, who was consistent week in, week out. A very tidy rider, who when on form was capable of beating anyone at home. Made my team in spite of his hissy fit at Buxton when refusing to ride due to the state of the track which cost us the meeting!!

Darren Hatton
Although not one of our top scorers, Darren was very dedicated to the Dragons cause (as were the rest of the Hatton family!). What I like about Darren was the vast improvement that we saw in his riding from when he first joined Carmarthen to how he was in 2004. Great to see such dedication and someone who always had time to speak to the fans.
