Hackney Reunion 2012 - Update
By Paul Tadman

Tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Hackney Speedway 'Olympic' Reunion. Tickets are priced at £27 each. Regrettably since Hackney's last reunion in 2005, [can it really be seven years since the last one] the cost to run this event have risen quite considerably. But when that Hackney atmosphere is once again created on June 8th, as it was in July 2005, it becomes priceless and how I wish I could bottle it! Here's what to expect!

  • Free entry on the day to Paradise Wildlife Park, usual price £15, on production of your Hackney Speedway Reunion ticket.

  • Free entry to the speedway museum

  • Tours of the speedway memorial garden from mid afternoon up unto 7.45pm

  • Large car park close to the venue where the reunion will be held

  • Paradise Wildlife Park and the Speedway Museum closes at 6pm but will remain open exclusively for Hackney Speedway guests until 7:30pm

  • Let the train take the strain! Unwind and travel on the Woodland Railway in Paradise Park. You may see a few dinosaurs along the way to make the trip one that you won't forget! Usually the last train is at 6pm but will remain open until 7pm, again exclusively for Hackney Speedway patrons

  • There's a pick up and return coach service to Broxbourne Station for those guests coming by train, more details on request

  • Pick up and return service by coach from the Marriott hotel [special rate for Hackney Reunion guests, details on request]for those guests staying over on the Friday night

  • Licensed bar open from 7pm to midnight

  • Dave Morton will be taking pre-orders for his autobiography [it's due to be published in the autumn] Tapes, Breaks and Heartaches a must read for Hackney fans

  • Retro Speedway will be launching on the night a new Hackney Speedway DVD with interviews from Colin Pratt, Dave Morton, Bengt Jansson plus many more and of course action from Waterden Road

  • The Magnificent Seven will play at eight, then of course the Hackney Speedway reunion will begin, including of course, the tossing of the coin

  • BBQ including a desert will be served outside on the veranda

  • Music to dance to

  • Plus a chance to have a drink or two

This is an adults only event. Could you please state when you order tickets your dietary needs if vegetarian. All tickets must be paid for in advance. Make cheques or postal orders payable to Hackney Reunion and send to:-

  • Bert Harkins:

"It was a great shame that the Hackney Reunion had to be called off, I would have thought that there were enough former Hawks riders and supporters to have made it a great "Friday at Eight". One disappointed superstar was Hackney legend, Bengt Jansson who, when he heard about the reunion, booked his flight from Sweden early to take advantage of a cheaper fare. Unfortunately, when the Reunion was cancelled, Benga was too late to get a refund on his ticket, so flew over to UK in the hope of seeing some Speedway but he landed in the middle of the wettest drought in history when so many meetings were rained off. Let's hope that Paul gets the support to put on the Reunion at a later date, but well done for trying."
