A Barracuda Bites Back....By Andrew Taylor

I think that it is rather sad that the obvious jealousy expressed by Steve Harland, that Boston and Ellesmere Port have people wanting to re-introduce the sport, does nothing whatsoever for someone claiming to be a real supporter of the sport.

The facts are - No-one appears to be interested in Middlesbrough at the moment.

Boston - apart from the ill-fated attempt by Richard Green and co always had a decent level of support. In 1987 with the exception of Andy Hines, had no heat leaders and a team of riders nobody else wanted. The promotion of that 18 month period came in with very little in the way of funds. Cyril Crane pulled out because of work commitments.

Boston isn't Skegness and if Steve Harland wants to use them as an example we could point to the struggles that Newcastle have had over the years. We could point out the failure of Sunderland to establish itself as a viable track.

Lincolnshire is very sparsely populated, but would support a team in the conference league and perhaps the premier league at a later date.

As I have already pointed out Stephen Lambert comes from the Boston area, so the likelihood of him promoting a Middlesbrough team are slim.

Perhaps, Mr Harland could do the decent thing and wish us luck. I have had many e-mails from people that I have met over the years and a couple from fans who used to support the Middlesbrough side. They wished us luck and are totally unsupportive of the remarks made. If Mildenhall and Peterborough fans can be supportive surely Mr Harland can, as we all want to enjoy what is one of the best sports around.
