Dream Team : Iain Davies

CarterMauger

Here is my dream team...as a long Newcastle fan it is inevitably based on those years, however since 2000 I have been following Edinburgh & Glasgow since moving north.

Joe Owen
Pure brilliance, especially his 1976 season when he finished an entire season with an average over 11.5. Consistency but not bourne out of being the sharpest from the gate. Mr Excitement.

Kenny Carter
Raw natural talent, was the proverbial candle that burned brightly but oh so tragically short.

Tom Owen
If possible more reliable than his younger brother, but made it looks so easy, and one of the loveliest guys the sport's ever known.

Tomasz Gollob
You always want to see a race with Tomasz in it...you just never know what he'll do!

Ivan Mauger
Simply the greatest rider that ever lived. His record probably will never be surpassed, but not the most personable.

Greg Hancock
Mr Nice Guy, a winner and the greatest team rider I've ever watched.

Tony Rickardsson
Immaculate in every area, and the next best thing to Ivan over the years.

I'd follow that team anywhere...and I could do an equally good second 7: Olsen, Ermolenko, Penhall, Nielsen, Jessup, J. Crump, Peter Collins

Imagine that match ????!!!!!

"Excellent choices. Three of my favourite riders. Kenny Carter - simply a god. Joe Owen - genius. Ivan Mauger - no comment required."
